As more and more Indians go outside India, our government services are following suit. Many things which used to be very difficult and inconvenient, are now just a few clicks.

Now The new sites easy for anyone to apply for a PAN card, file an RTI or download a copy of their Aadhaar card. Digital governance has applied to make things easier than ever, and somewhere this is truer than applying for a passport.
Just applying for a passport in India is enough to inspire a headache. Many people still sweat the minor details like how to fill the form and what documents are required. Many people still hire agents and are completing the fee-for-duty process because no one wants to waste hours in government offices running from one department to another to get the basic stuff. If you are one of these people, stop and relax your brows. It is easy to apply for a passport online. The process for online passport apply is long and you still have to go to the passport office, but as long as you follow these steps, you definitely won’t need an agent to do the work.

Go to the Passport Services website.
Now, Click Register Now in the box called Apply.
Now fill-up the form then create an account on the Passport Seva website. You need to select the passport office of the city in which you are residing, not your place of origin. Also, make sure that you enter the name as it appears in your other documents in the same way to avoid any problems with your application. The rest of the form is very straightforward – it’s like signing up for another website.
When done click on Register.
Now the account created, return to the Passport Seva website.
Click on the green login button.
Enter your email address and click Continue.
The key to your email, password and image characters. Click Login
select Apply again for a new passport/passport.
You can either download the form, fill it out and upload it back to the website, or just fill in the details online. We recommend that you fill the online details to save time.
If you want to download the form anyway, in the first subheading on the page titled Alternative 1, click here to download a soft copy of the form.
If you want to fill the online form, click here to fill the online application form under Alternative 2. We suggest that you choose this option as it is the easiest way to apply for your passport.
On the next page, you have to issue a new passport or re-issue, a normal or immediate passport, 38 pages or 60 pages. Select according to your needs, and click Next Page.
You have to enter your personal information on the next page, and once again, the information you have filled must match your other documents. If you have any doubt, you can refer to this official instruction manual. Once you complete the work, click the submit application in the bottom right.
After filling the form, return to the webpage mentioned in step 9.
then Click View Saved / Submitted Applications.
You will see the application that you just submitted. Next, click on the radio button and click on Pay and Schedule Appointment.
Select online payment and click on Next.
A list of Passport Seva Kendras in your city will appear on the screen with the earliest available date and time.
Select one from the drop-down menu next to the PSK location.
Enter the character next to the image and click Next.
after then Click on Pay & Book appointment.
Now you will redirect to the payment gateway. Complete your payment and you will be redirected to the Passport Seva website.
Now you will see a page confirming the appointment with all the details of your appointment at Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).
Click on the print application receipt. A detailed view of the application will appear on the next page – again, click on the print application receipt.
On the next page, you will see a preview of the receipt. Once again, click on the print application receipt to take a printout of the confirmation of the appointment.
You will need a print of this receipt to enter PSK.
Now all you have to do is go to PSK at the time mentioned in the receipt. Based on our experience, if you have all the necessary documents, your PSK journey should not exceed two hours. You will get your passport after completion of police verification.
Select Passport from the drop-down menu, and type in your case number (which PSK gives you) and your DOB, and click Track Status, you will see the status of your application.
Stepwise Process to online Passport Apply
Step 1: Passport Seva Login
Go to the official website of Passport Seva and click on the ‘APPLY‘ section.
If you are an existing user, then log in using the user ID and password.
If you sign up the first time, then register and create an account. Follow the steps given below for registration:
Under the ‘New Users’ tab. Click on Register Now.
Enter the login ID and password. Enter the captcha code and click ‘Register’.
Step 2: Select application type
After logging in, you have to select the related service from the given options. You can choose to apply for one:
Fresh passport/passport reissue
Diplomatic Passport / Official Passport
Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)
Step 3: Filling the application form
An application can be done online or offline for filling. To fill the application form offline, follow the steps given below:
Click on the given link to download the application form in soft copy.
A link towards an electronic copy of the following forms will be displayed. Download related form based on your application type:
Fresh / reissue
Police permit certificate
Diplomatic / Official
Fill the application e-form and click on the ‘Upload e-form’ link.
Upload the filled application form.
You can also fill the application form online and submit it. You can partially fill the form and complete the process at a later date. It is worth checking the form once before submitting it.
Step 4: Schedule appointment, salary, and book
After filling and submitting the form, you will have to schedule the appointment at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or the concerned passport authority. Appointment can be booked as described below:
Go to the ‘Applicant Home‘ page and click on ‘Save Save / Submitted Application‘.
Details of the submitted application form will be displayed. Select the ARN of the form you submitted.
Click on the ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’ option from the given ones.
Next, choose the mode of payment from the two provided, ie. Online payment and invoice payment.
Note: If paid for TataTatkal appointments, the online fee is the same as a regular passport fee. The remaining amount is to be paid to PSK on the appointment date.
If you are paying online, you can book an appointment immediately. If you choose to pay by invoice, you will need to do the following:
- Take the challan to the SBI branch and pay the required amount in cash. (Note: This can be done only after 3 hours of invoice generation, which is valid for 85 days.)
- The next step is, you have to collect a copy of the challan from the receiving bank personnel.
- The bank takes 2 days to verify the ARN details given on the invoice.
- Successful payment of fees will be displayed after verification of the website, where the applicant can ‘track payment status’. An email update is also sent.
- On the ‘Salary and Schedule Appointments’ page, select the PSK of your choice.
- According to your convenient slot choose the date mentioned. There, the applicant is required to select the PSK based on the available date.
- Confirm your appointment slot by entering a captcha code.
- Next, select ‘Salary and Book Appointment’
- Application details such as ARN, name, type of application, amount to be paid, contact number and appointment date will be displayed.
- If you have chosen to pay online, you will be sent to the payment gateway.
- On successful completion of payment, you will receive confirmation of the appointment and an
- appointment number. An SMS with details will also be sent. Print a copy of the application receipt. All PSKs now also accept SMS for proof of appointment.
If multiple payments are made for a single appointment/application/ ARN, the additional amount will be refunded by the RPO. Passport appointments can be rescheduled twice within one year from the date of the original appointment.
However, if you miss an appointment, you cannot reschedule the appointment.
How to online apply for Diplomatic Passport / Official Passport
Diplomatic or official passports are issued to persons who hold diplomatic status or are deputed by the Government of India to travel abroad on official duty. This document will be also used your proof of address and identity. Applications for diplomatic and official passports are generally entertained only in the Consular, Passport, and Visa (CPV) Division, Patiala House, New Delhi. However, you can also choose to apply in the attached passport office at the applicant’s current address.
The below-mentioned clues will help guide the applicants who want to apply for official or diplomatic passports online –
Go to the official website of Passport Seva Kendra and click on the link Register Now.
After then, they will be given an ID that needs to be used to login to the Passport Seva online portal.
After this, the applicants have to click on the link which reads ‘Apply for Diplomatic Passport’.
After doing so, one has to download, fill and submit the required form along with the required documentary proof.
After this, the printout of the filled application has to be taken through the Print View / Print Submit Form ‘link, which is available on the ‘Sub View Saved / Submitted Application‘ page.
This printed copy of the online application form will have to be taken to the New Delhi Passport Office, Patiala House, New Delhi Passport Office with the original address attached and the required documents attached to the original address.

The cost of a passport depends on to whom the type of passport service is applicable and whether it is on a regular basis or immediately. As per the revised rules, all passport fees have to be paid online.

How to Pay the Passport Fee
Passport Fee Payment Online: Applicants can pay the required fee online through the following channels:
Credit / Debit Card (Master Card and Visa only)
with the Internet Banking of State Bank of India and Associate Banks
SBI Bank Challan
Sbi wallet payment
Please note: In the case of Tatkaal applications, only the normal fee has to be paid online. If the task application is accepted, the remaining amount is payable in cash at the PSK / Passport office.
Online payment is mandatory for appointment booking at Passport Seva Kendras (PSK). For payment made through debit/credit card, banks levy 1.5% + tax applicable on each transaction. This does not apply to SBI and associate banks. for one year from the first appointment date, Online payment remains valid and applications must be submitted within this time. the payment will be considered forfeited If not, and a new payment will have to be made. In Citizen Service Centers (CSCs), payment can be made by credit/debit card.
